Three U.S. Marshals who were attempting to serve a warrant were shot Wednesday morning in West Virginia. The marshals went to an apartment building in Elkins around 8:30 a.m. and were met with a blast from a shotgun. A spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service says one of the marshals died, one is hospitalized, and the third has been released from the hospital after treatment. Information on the warrant and the marshals' names have not been released. The suspect, Charles E. Smith, 50, was killed in the shootout.
