Nearly 5,000 migrants from the co-called caravan are camped out in Tijuana, Mexico, where the mayor is asking for funds from the United Nations to deal with the influx, the Associated Press reported. Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum said the Mexican federal government isn’t providing aid to care for the Central Americans who spent weeks on the road in the hopes of applying for asylum in the United States and are now stranded in his city. Most of the migrants are being housed inside a sports complex with long lines for toilets and food, facing the prospect of a weeks-long wait before they can present their case for asylum to American officials.
