Scott Roeder took the stand and admitted to shooting the abortion doctor George Tiller, but said as part of his defense that he was saving the lives of unborn children. The born-again Christian has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, and Roeder's trial is the first time in U.S. legal history that an anti-abortionist has been allowed to present his case for murder to a jury. Roeder testified that he had been thinking about killing Tiller since as early as 1993, and had even once considered chopping Tiller's hands off with a sword.
