Theater’s biggest awards show has wrapped, and some A-list Hollywood names have picked up the stage's most coveted honors. Hosted by Promises, Promises star Sean Hayes, this year’s Tony Awards also revealed several surprise winners, including Terry Johnson (La Cage aux Folles) for best director of a musical and Michael Grandage (Red) for best director of a play. The top prize of the night, best musical, went to Memphis. Catherine Zeta-Jones took home the award for best actress in a musical, for her work in A Little Night Music, while Scarlett Johansson won for featured actress in a play (A View From the Bridge), and Denzel Washington took home the award for best actor in a play (Fences). Other highlights included Green Day’s opening performance—and an over-the-top smooch between Hayes and co-star Kristin Chenoweth, in response to a certain controversial Newsweek article.
