A top Catalan lawmaker was freed on Friday after spending the night in a Madrid prison, the AP reported. Catalonia Parliament speaker Carme Forcadell was released after posting a 150,000 euros ($175,000) bond imposed by a Spanish judge as part of an investigation spurred by Catalonia’s declaration of independence. “We’re going back home,” Forcadell tweeted. “With an easy conscience for having acted correctly: to guarantee freedom of expression in (the Catalan) Parliament, headquarters of the national sovereignty.” Five other Catalan leaders are also being investigated as part of the rebellion probe, though Forcadell was the only one immediately jailed after questioning.
