Not everyone was amused by comedian Stephen Colbert’s testimony at a congressional hearing on immigration reform Friday: House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) called the remarks “not appropriate” and “an embarrassment” today on Fox News Sunday. “I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican. I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian,” Colbert said before the House panel, using the same character he adopts on his hit Comedy Central show The Colbert Report. Hoyer didn’t find it funny, saying that the style was “not the way it should have been said.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi didn’t mind, though. “He’s American,” she said of Colbert. “He can bring attention to any issue. I think it’s great.”
