She never lost that loving feeling. Christine Fox, the woman behind Kelly McGillis’s Top Gun character Charlie Blackwood has been appointed acting deputy defense secretary by President Obama. The appointment makes Fox the highest ranking woman ever at the Pentagon. Fox, who replaces Ashton Carter, has previously previously been the director of cost controls before leaving for academia in the summer. The position will be "pending the nomination and confirmation of a permanent successor." Hagel also said in a statement that Fox is "a brilliant defense thinker and proven manager" who "knows the intricacies of the Department's budget, programs and global operations better than anyone."
