New Hampshire’s top-ranking state senate Democrat was arrested Thursday on domestic-violence charges for a string of alleged violent incidents dating back to last August, according to the attorney general’s office. State Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn, 53, has vowed to fight the charges after being accused of striking, biting, and throwing objects at an “adult female victim” in alleged incidents from August 2017 to June 2018. He faces a slew of misdemeanor charges and was urged to step down by fellow Democrats as soon as news of his arrest broke Thursday, but said in a statement a few hours later that he plans to “fully address” the allegations in court. Woodburn, who is in his third term and seeking re-election for a fourth, was roundly condemned by most of his fellow Democrats, with Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley calling on him to “resign immediately.” Republican Gov. Chris Sununu echoed Buckley and called Woodburn’s alleged behavior “morally reprehensible.”
