A topless activist from the feminist group Femen boldly tried to take the statue of baby Jesus from the Nativity scene in St. Peter’s Square on Monday but was stopped by police before she could get to it. According to a photographer on the scene, the woman shouted “God is woman,” which was also painted on her bare back. The incident happened just two hours before Pope Francis delivered his Christmas message. Femen’s website identified the woman as Alisa Vinogradova and called her a “sextremist.”
