It's not a derecho, but it sure is fierce. A tornado touched down near Laurel, Maryland, at a bruising speed of 50 mph Thursday afternoon. It's part of a storm system that crushed through Ohio, as seen in the photo on the left. Severe thunderstorms are expected for the Baltimore region, though additional tornado warnings have been canceled. Winds raging at 48 mph are causing damage in affected areas. The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm watches through Friday evening.
