Toyota’s long nightmare continues. After recalling millions of vehicles in November 2009, the automaker announced Thursday that it’s recalling another 2.17 million cars to fix a problem with floormats. The mats have been trapping gas pedals, causing uncontrolled acceleration and a slew of accidents and 93 deaths. More than half of the newly recalled cars are being added to the original 2009 recall. Other vehicles in the recall will use a different method to solve a similar problem. The company has now recalled almost 7 million cars stateside and 14 million worldwide. A government report on Feb. 8 cleared the company of allegations that faulty electronics caused the problem.
