A backhoe that caused a fatal Amtrak train crash over the weekend reportedly did not have authorization to be on an active train track. Two maintenance workers who were on the backhoe died after the train hit them while they were on the tracks. A neighboring track had been taken out of service, where the maintenance workers were on the backhoe. But they ended up on the active track, which caused the accident. Around 30 people aboard the train itself were injured from the collision.
