'Transformers' Breaks Wednesday Record

Apparently, Americans love sequels. Case in point: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made than $55 million in ticket sales on its opening day yesterday, easily the best Wednesday release ever, according to Variety. The previous record holder for best Wednesday opening was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which grossed $44.2 million. Transformers, which is playing at more than 4,200 theaters domestically, also had great opening numbers in Australia, Korea, the U.K., and Japan. The film's killer opening day sets the stage for it to surpass the $152.4 million earned by Spider-Man 2 over its first five days.
