Transformers: Dark of the Moon has set a box-office record this July 4 weekend, taking in $97.4 million. While that’s down from the $109 million the Transformers sequel Revenge of the Fallen took in on opening weekend, it beats the July 4 record held by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at $90.2 million. The film also set a record for IMAX releases with a global opening above $20 million. Paramount expects the Michael Bay film, starring Shia LaBeouf, to hit $180.9 million by Monday’s end.
