The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and others who have been killed by gun violence joined Hillary Clinton in South Carolina on Tuesday as the former secretary of state spoke about gun control. Eric Garner’s mother and the mother of Dontre Hamilton, who were both fatally shot by police, also spoke at the event. “We have an opportunity to have someone who is going to stand up for us as African Americans, for us as women,” said Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Martin. Clinton, who has made gun control a priority in her presidential campaign, and rival Bernie Sanders have been competing for black voters ahead of South Carolina’s primary on Saturday.
