Comedian Trevor Noah has issued an apology over a Bollywood reference he made in a joke about the rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the disputed region of Kashmir. The South African Daily Show host was condemned online as “racist” and “insensitive” after saying that a war between the two nations would be “the most entertaining” and that “it would also be the longest war of all time–another dance number!” Noah responded to the criticism on Twitter. “It’s amazing to me that my joke about the conflict in India and Pakistan trended more than the story of the actual conflict itself. Sometimes it seems like people are more offended by the jokes comedians make about an issue than the issue itself.” More than 40 people have died in escalating tension in the region.
