Two people were killed and as many as 15 others injured when a car plowed through a pedestrian zone in the southwest German city of Trier on Tuesday, local police have confirmed. In a statement posted to Twitter, Trier police wrote that there were “several injured people who were hit by a car,” then followed that up with another post saying: “We arrested one person and one vehicle was seized. According to initial findings, two people have died.” The arrested person is 51 years old, police said. An eyewitness told the Trierischer Volksfreund local newspaper that they saw a Range Rover drive toward people at high speed. No motive has been established.
