Twenty-eight years after the original, Tron: Legacy has finally given Disney a successful start at a new franchise. The futuristic film picked up $43.6 million over the weekend, outpacing estimates and making a dent in its $200 million price tag. Next up, the animated comedy Yogi Bear opened with $16.7 million, while the latest Chronicles of Narnia installment dipped down to $12.4 million. In limited release, Mark Wahlberg’s The Fighter and Natalie Portman’s Black Swan—both Oscar contenders—continued to bring in big numbers on a small number of screens.
