For the time being at least, it looks like Tropical Storm Alex will not be getting in the way of the Gulf Coast cleanup. It is expected to weaken early on Sunday over Central America before regaining strength during the evening over the Gulf of Mexico—where it could turn into a hurricane—but will pass far south and west of the blown-out oil well and the shores where oil has been washing up for several weeks. Meteorologists believe Alex will make landfall somewhere on the Mexican Gulf coast in the middle of the week, but warn that its path could yet change.
