Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to receive a rockstar’s welcome in the U.S. capital this week, in what will be his first official visit to the United States.
Trudeau will enjoy an official state dinner in the capital—the first for a Canadian since 1997—and attend a reception on Wednesday with a reportedly gigantic waiting list.
The PM is famous for his good looks and recent photo shoot with some adorable baby pandas. But Canadian officials are hoping the visit will focus on more than that.
“I don't mind why it is that people are paying attention,” Canada’s U.S. ambassador, David MacNaughton, told Politico. “The fact that they're paying attention is an opportunity to focus on substance."
