John Kelly told staff on Monday that he will remain Donald Trump’s chief of staff through 2020 at the president’s request, according to The Wall Street Journal. Previously, Kelly, who has been in the position for one year, was expected to leave the post, and Trump reportedly discussed his potential replacement with advisers. Relations between Kelly and Trump have been rocky at times, but appear to have improved. “Congratulations to General John Kelly. Today we celebrate his first full year as @WhiteHouse Chief of Staff!” Trump tweeted Monday with a photo of them together. If he holds the position through 2020, Kelly would be one of the longest-running chiefs of staff.
