President Donald Trump attacked CNN and called journalist Carl Bernstein “sloppy” in a Wednesday night tweet. “CNN is being torn apart from within based on their being caught in a major lie and refusing to admit the mistake,” Trump wrote. “Sloppy [Carl Bernstein], a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country! Fake News.” CNN countered the presidents attacks, writing in its own tweet: “Make no mistake, Mr. President, CNN does not lie. We report the news. And we report when people in power tell lies.” The network stated that it stood by its reporting and reporters. “There may be many fools in this story but [Bernstein] is not one of them,” the network wrote. Trump's son, Don Jr., also joined the fray by questioning Bernstein's defense on a story he penned using Michael Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, as a source. This comes after Davis admitted to confirming a fact anonymously to CNN when he did not know if it was true. Davis was one of the sources to confirm to the network that Cohen, his client, reportedly claimed that the president had advance knowledge of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting.
