President Trump, speaking shortly after authorities arrested a suspect in connection with the 12 pipe bombs that were sent to Trump critics across the country, said Friday that the bombs were “terrorizing acts” that “have no place in our country.” Trump told the Young Black Leadership Summit that he will “spare no resource or expense in finding those responsible and bringing them to swift and certain justice.” “We must never allow political violence to take root in America,” he said, adding, “I’ve committed to do everything in my power as president to stop it, and to stop it now.” The characterization is a departure from Trump’s earlier stance. Just hours before the suspect was apprehended, Trump called the attacks “this ‘bomb’ stuff” via Twitter, seemingly suggesting the bombs were a hoax.
