CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Thursday slammed WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange, calling him a “narcissist” and a “coward” who makes “common cause with dictators.” Donald Trump’s pick to run the agency called WikiLeaks a “a non-state hostile intelligence service, often abetted by state actors like Russia.” This represents a significant break from a 2016 statement from his boss, who praised WikiLeaks for publishing emails from the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton Foundation. “I love WikiLeaks,” Trump said. “It’s amazing how nothing is secret today when you talk about the internet.” Before that, Trump had slammed Assange, at one point in 2010 going so far as to say there should be “like, death penalty, or something” for leakers. Unofficial campaign adviser Roger Stone has been accused of collaborating with WikiLeaks after boasting he was in contact with Assange. Stone denies he did anything illegal.
