President Donald Trump congratulated Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on his re-election, according to a White House readout of the call on Monday. “The two leaders affirmed the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt, and noted that they look forward to advancing this partnership and addressing common challenges,” the readout said. A statement from the State Department “noted reports of constraints on freedoms of expression and association in the run-up to the elections,” but the White House readout didn’t mention any election concerns. El-Sisi reportedly won 97 percent of the vote in Egypt last week, according to BBC News. Trump recently congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election, despite concerns about ballot-stuffing at polling stations.
