President Donald Trump has escalated his war against Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.

Frustrated that the Supreme Court would not allow him to fire the Biden-appointed governor just two years into a 15-year term, Trump, 80, has come up with a new plan.

In a memo signed Oct. 7 and published Friday, Trump announced the establishment of a committee to investigate the alleged wrongdoing of Cook, declaring that the committee will meet at the White House on Nov. 5 to “consider the evidence and allegations against Governor Cook.”

“As President, it is my job to ensure the laws are faithfully executed, including by firing subordinates who cannot be trusted to tell the truth and follow the law,” he wrote.

Cook is one of seven governors of the Reserve, the independent body that sets key fiscal policies like interest rates. She is one of three Biden appointees.

Tensions escalated between Cook and Trump when he took the unprecedented step of writing a termination letter to Cook in August 2025, informing her that she would be removed from her position “effective immediately” due to allegations of mortgage fraud.

The allegation was made by MAGA acolyte Bill Pulte, the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, who has also referred New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Democratic Senator Adam Schiff to the department on similar mortgage fraud allegations.

Rothkopf said intelligence experts were "outraged" by Pulte's nomination.

Cook insisted she had done nothing wrong, and argued in court that the president lacked the authority to sack her on such grounds.

The Supreme Court sided with her, enraging the president and stymying his bid to gain greater control over monetary policy through stacking the board with his goons.

In a statement, Cook’s lawyers said they had “grave doubts that this ‘hearing’ is a legitimate one that would conform to the law.”

They noted Trump’s repeated statements that he had already decided to fire Cook.

“We have engaged with the White House to evaluate whether the process proposed has a possibility of being a genuine one and not simply a box checking exercise,” Cook’s lawyers Abbe Lowell and Norm Eisen said.

Cook “welcomes the opportunity to present the facts so she can clear her name and demonstrate there is no legal basis to fire her,” they added.

The committee of inquiry is charged with investigating ”allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook made false statements in connection with one or more mortgage instruments."

The November hearing will take place at the White House, and last no longer than four hours, Trump said.

Members of the committee include Trump’s top economic aide Kevin Hassett, the chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Andrea Lucas, and acting director of the Office of Government Ethics, Keith Sonderling—both Trump appointees.

The committee is expected to make a recommendation on whether there is cause to remove Cook from her position, giving Trump cover to fire her if it is found.

No president has removed a sitting Fed governor in the central bank’s 113-year history.

The White House and Cook did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
