Donald Trump—the man who has more than 50 million Twitter followers and whose updates on the platform regularly lead news bulletins around the world—has made the bizarre claim that the social-media company has purposefully made it more difficult to follow his account. His complaint was largely aimed at Twitter, but also included Facebook and Google, claiming that they’re all suppressing his presence on the platforms due to “ridiculous” bias toward the Democrats. There is no evidence that what he claims is even remotely true—though Twitter did delete tens of millions of suspicious and fake accounts this year, and in November it deleted a further 10,000 bot accounts that were discouraging Democrats from voting in the midterms. “Facebook, Twitter and Google are so biased toward the Dems it is ridiculous! Twitter, in fact, has made it much more difficult for people to join @realDonaldTrump,” the president wrote. “They have removed many names & greatly slowed the level and speed of increase. They have acknowledged-done NOTHING!”
