Donald Trump Jr.’s new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, has ruffled feathers in MAGA land by showing interest in serving on a White House philanthropic committee and by generally not being sufficiently on brand, according to a new report.
The 38-year-old Palm Beach socialite has been pushing to lead the president’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, saying she could help the incoming administration appeal to “more sophisticated and liberal Hamptons and Palm Beach types,”the New York Post reports.
But MAGA insiders are apparently not interested in bridging the divide, thank you. They’ve accused Anderson of being too left-leaning and of using Trump Jr., 46, to gain more influence and Instagram followers.
“Being a wannabe influencer is nothing new in this world, but is she an influencer or an infiltrator?” an unnamed transition source told the Post.
Anderson’s Instagram account admittedly does not scream “MAGA.” She has posted support for Black Lives Matter, posed in a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic, and expressed zero interest in homemaking or childrearing.
“When my friends tell me the joys of having children, but I’m always moved by just how tired they look,” she wrote on Instagram in 2021 under a photo of her pushing a stroller stacked with shopping bags.
Then there’s the fact that as of six days ago, Trump Jr. was still officially engaged to his longtime fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, 55, even after he had begun publicly dating Anderson.
On Friday, Trump Jr. finally seemed to confirm their split to Page Six, saying, “Kimberly and I will never stop caring for each other and will always keep a special bond.”
“Since the very beginning, no one on Team Trump has worked harder than Kimberly to help elect and reelect my father,” he said of Guilfoyle, who was conveniently announced as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for ambassador to Greece just hours after the Daily Mail published photos of Trump Jr. and Anderson holding hands.
Following the nomination, Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor and Fox News host, praised Trump Sr.’s “historic victory” and said she “looked forward to delivering the Trump agenda.”
Sources told the Post that even though she was “disappointed” by how the past few weeks had transpired, she was still standing (rhetorically) by her man.
“I think part of it is she’s a bit worried for Don because if there are some nefarious intentions from this new woman, that would just be awful,” one source said. “Don’s great and has done an awesome job on the transition. Would just be unfortunate to have a self-inflicted wound.”
A woman after MAGA’s own heart.
