President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence made surprise remarks at Friday’s anti-abortion March for Life at Washington D.C.’s National Mall, The Washington Post reports. “When we look into the eyes of a newborn child, we see the beauty and the human soul and the majesty of God’s creation,” Trump told the crowd through a video feed. “We know that every life has meaning.” The president also reportedly promised the marchers he would veto any legislation that thwarts anti-abortion efforts. Pence, who appeared at the event in-person along with his wife, Karen Pence, recounted Bible verses to the marchers. “Listen to the truth,” he said. “Know that He who said, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you’ also said ‘I will never forsake you.’” This year’s march reportedly had a “pro-science” theme and promoted studies published before the event. One study claimed that zygotes are separate from the mother and “living individuals” that direct “its own development.”
