The White House has abruptly rescinded its nomination for longtime border patrol official Ron Vitiello to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Politico, which cited a notice sent to members of Congress. The move reportedly came just before Vitiello was scheduled to accompany President Trump during a visit to the border Friday. Vitiello, who has served in law enforcement for more than 30 years, will reportedly no longer be making that trip. It’s not clear why Trump pulled the nomination, but he has recently threatened to shut down the border entirely.
