President Trump told reporters before boarding Marine One that he believes Russia should have been invited to the G7 summit, as he was departing the White House for Quebec on Friday morning. “Russia should be in this meeting. Why are we having a meeting without Russia?” he asked reporters. “We have a world to run.” He added that he has “been Russia’s worst nightmare,” but he believes they should have a seat at the table, according to the White House pool report. Italy's new Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte later tweeted that he agreed “with President [Trump]. Russia should be re-admitted into the G8. It is in the interests of everyone.” The summit once included the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Russia—but was cut down to the G7 in 2014, when Russia was suspended due to its annexation of Crimea and hostilities in Ukraine.
