President Trump said Saturday that he’d submit his written responses to special counsel Robert Mueller next week but has not yet decided whether he’d sit down for an interview. Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, Trump said he personally wrote his responses. Trump had insisted Friday that he’d “very easily” answered the questions himself without letting his legal team do it. “My lawyers don’t write answers, I write answers,” he said. Echoing earlier statements made by his lawyers about a potential “perjury trap,” Trump also suggested some of Mueller’s questions had been “tricked up” to catch any lies. “You have to always be careful when you answer questions with people that probably have bad intentions,” he told reporters. Trump’s legal team spent months negotiating with Mueller’s office to allow the president to submit his testimony in the ongoing Russia investigation in written form. Trump has repeatedly been urged by his lawyers not to sit down with investigators for an interview on possible obstruction of justice, however.
