In a tweet early Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump insisted that the Second Amendment will “NEVER BE REPEALED.” His comment came after retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens argued that the amendment should be repealed in a New York Times op-ed published Tuesday. “As much as Democrats would like to see this happen, and despite the words yesterday of former Supreme Court Justice Stevens, NO WAY,” Trump wrote. “We need more Republicans in 2018 and must ALWAYS hold the Supreme Court!” In his op-ed, Stevens argued that the Second Amendment is “a relic of the 18th century,” and said its repeal is something the March for Our Lives leaders should advocate for because it would bring them “closer to their objective than any other possible reform.” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that the President supports the Second Amendment and will not focus on “blocking all Americans from their constitutional rights.”
