President Trump announced on Tuesday that he will visit Puerto Rico next week in order to assess the island’s devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. “I grew up in New York, so I know many people from Puerto Rico,” he boasted. “These are great people.” Trump added, “We have shipped massive amounts of food and water and supplies to Puerto Rico, and we are continuing to do it on an hourly basis. That island was hit hard, as you can see.” The president also received blowback on Tuesday morning after he sent off a series of tweets in which he brought up the island’s debt. “You don't put debt above people, you put people above debt,” responded San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, on CNN.
