President Trump is going to ask Congress for another $8.6 billion to fund his border wall, The New York Times reported. Trump’s request is part of his proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year, and comes after his previous request for $5.6 billion failed because both parties approved a spending bill that didn’t include this money, per the newspaper. Congress’ refusal to green light his prior request spurred Trump to declare a national emergency along the border, as a workaround to obtain billions without Congressional approval. Trump’s latest request would cover 700 miles of a border barrier, the total he had planned to build, according to The Times. The majority of this barrier would be new, while some parts would be refurbished. Because Democrats are in control of the House, Trump’s proposed budget is “ most likely dead on arrival,” The Times reported.
