President Trump helped write his son’s controversial statement on his meeting with a Russian lawyer, the White House confirmed on Tuesday. “The president weighed in—as any father would—based on the limited information that he had," White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a press conference. The original statement in question from Donald Trump Jr., released on July 8, claimed his meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya was related to adoption policy—a claim later contradicted by his own emails showing she approached Trump and associates with potentially damaging information about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The Washington Post previously reported on Monday that the president personally dictated Junior’s statement.
