Nearly 60 percent of women in America want impeachment proceedings to be initiated against Donald Trump, according to a new poll, while overall disapproval of the president has hit an all-time high. The national survey, conducted for The Washington Post and ABC News, shows that 49 percent of the U.S. public supports Congress initiating impeachment proceedings against Trump; but that support rises sharply to 57 percent among women only. Some 60 percent disapprove of Trump’s performance in office—the highest number registered during his presidency—which includes 53 percent who disapprove strongly. A measly 36 percent approve of his performance, matching his all-time low. Other findings in the poll show that the overall support for the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election stands at 63 percent—and 52 percent support it strongly. The poll was conducted Aug. 26 to 29, the week former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was convicted on tax charges and Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen implicated the president in paying illegal “hush money” in the run-up to the election to women who alleged sexual relationships with him.
