Trump, Without Evidence, Alleges ‘Electoral Corruption’ in Arizona Race

As Democrat Kyrsten Sinema took the lead Friday in a tight Senate race against her Republican opponent Martha McSally, President Trump alleged “electoral corruption” on Twitter without providing evidence. “Just out — in Arizona, SIGNATURES DON’T MATCH. Electoral corruption - Call for a new Election? We must protect our Democracy!” Trump wrote. In fact, voting in Arizona is an extremely thorough process, with each mail-in ballot dropped off on Election Day double checked against same-day ballots to ensure no vote is counted twice. “Arizona takes elections seriously—from the poll workers to the county elections officials, and the Secretary of State’s office,” the state’s Republican secretary of state, Michelle Reagan, said in a statement Friday.

Voting in Arizona typically takes over a week to complete because so many residents opt to drop off their ballots on Election Day. No elected Republican officials in the state have raised any similar concerns to those voiced by President Trump.“Everybody is working diligently to tabulate all of the election results in a manner that Arizonans can be proud of and, most importantly, trust the results,” Reagan said. Election officials in the state expect counting to conclude by Nov. 15.
