A friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted of lying to the FBI on Tuesday. Robel Phillipos of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was found guilty of lying to federal authorities during the investigation of the 2013 attack. FBI agents testified that Phillipos lied about being in Tsarnaev’s University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth dorm room in the days following the attack while two other students removed potential evidence, including his backpack containing fireworks and his laptop. Phillipos lawyer argued that his client, then 19 years old, was intimidated and too high on marijuana to properly remember. Three people died as a result of the Boston Maraton bombing and scores were injured.
