The police officer who shot and killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher in Tulsa last week surrendered to officials early Friday morning and was released on bond within the hour. Officer Betty Shelby was booked into the Tulsa Jail just after 1 a.m. She posted a $50,000 bond in the first-degree manslaughter charge. The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office had charged 42-year-old Shelby on Thursday in the shooting. According to a legal document issued in the case, “Shelby reacted unreasonably by escalating the situation from a confrontation with Mr. Crutcher, who was not responding to verbal commands and was walking away from her with his hands held up, becoming emotionally involved to the point that she overreacted.”
