Twitter on Monday suspended accounts of sports blogs Deadspin and SBNation, after several sports leagues complained of the two sites posting highlights of games without permission. Twitter accused the two sites of violating its copyright protections and suspended both @Deadspin and @SBNationGIF, which both frequently post GIF animations and Vines. The National Football League, the Big 12, the Southeastern Collegiate Sports conferences and Ultimate Fighting Championship were among the organizations that filed "takedown notices" with Twitter. Deadspin's account was restored late Monday after parent company Gawker Media appealed to Twitter, but @SBNationGIF remained offline.
