Two Florida sheriff’s deputies were fatally shot Thursday while dining at a Chinese restaurant in Trenton, authorities said. Sgt. Noel Ramirez, 29, and Deputy Taylor Lindsay, 25, of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office were ambushed at about 3 p.m. when a gunman fired at them from outside a window of the restaurant. The alleged shooter, identified as 59-year-old John Hubert Highnote, was found dead outside the restaurant by responding officers, Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz told reporters late Thursday. It wasn’t immediately clear how Highnote died but state authorities are reportedly investigating. The motive in the deadly ambush was not immediately clear. “Sgt. Ramirez and Deputy Lindsay were the best of the best. They were men of integrity, men of loyalty… They gave their lives so that we can all be safe,” Schultz said.
