Five people were killed and another 30 injured overnight in Poland on Friday when severe storms sent trees randomly crashing down on unsuspecting victims. Two girl scouts, aged 13 and 14, were crushed by falling trees while sleeping in a tent in their campground. Twenty other scouts were injured as the storms ravaged the Tuchola Forest. “We had to force our way for kilometers through the forest, among falling trees,” Adam Kralisz, chairman of the regional scouting association, told local media. Three other people were killed and 10 others injured by falling trees in separate incidents in the country’s north. At least 800 buildings were damaged by the freakish storms, which prompted an emergency meeting of the government’s Crisis Management Team on Saturday.
