Nathan Doody and Tyler Memory were sucked into a tank of manure and died on Friday after being intoxicated by the fumes. The two off-duty firefighters were working their day jobs at the Champion Farms cattle ranch in Clinton, New York when one of the pair tumbled into a manure tanker to retrieve a piece of equipment, according to the New York Post. The first man in, fell unconscious, prompting the second to follow his fate trying to rescue him. Memory had been a firefighter since 14 for the Tully Joint Fire Department, the third generation of his family to take up the mantle, according to the New York Post. Doody similarly had been a lifelong firefighter for the Cortland, County Cuyler Fire Department, joining at age 10. The two worked together at Champion Farms as manure tanker drivers, according to assistant fire chief Joe Nemier.
