Two suspects have been identified in the Monday night shooting that critically injured four Houston police officers while they were serving a narcotics warrant, Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a press conference Tuesday. Suspects Dennis Tuttle ,59, and Rhogena Nicholas, 58, were killed after firing at five narcotics officers who were trying to enter an apartment where black tar heroin was being sold, Acevedo said.
“Once the officers breached the door and the gunfire began from the suspects, one of the suspects actually retreated momentarily to the back of the room and then that suspect came back and again engaged the officers in gunfire,” Acevedo said.
Four of the officers were shot and a fifth suffered a knee injury. Two of the officers were shot in the face, another was shot in the knee, and the fourth was release from a Houston hospital. One officer will require long-term care and surgeries, but all are in stable condition and expected to make full recoveries.
