Two American soldiers were killed Friday while conducting operations in southern Iraq, according to a statement released by the U.S. military on Saturday. No further details about the causes of death were released, and the victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. So far, nine U.S. servicemembers have died this month in Operation New Dawn—the Iraq campaign—most from non-combat-related incidents. Meanwhile, the total death toll will rise to at least 4,450 U.S. military personnel who have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
