Uber Scraps Tens of Thousands of Red Jump Bikes Weeks After Selling Business to Lime

Uber is recycling tens of thousands of its red Jump bikes and scooters previously in use in the U.S. The company scrapped the bikes due to maintenance and liability concerns, according to statements to the BBC. The ride-hailing company sold the bike portion of its business to the scooter rental company Lime on May 7, a deal that included tens of thousands of bikes but not Uber’s entire fleet. Legacy models, the majority of those now being destroyed, remained in Uber’s possession.
