Time to bust out some Husky Pride: The University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team has just broken the record the most consecutive wins by a major college. UConn won its 89th consecutive game Tuesday night, defeating Florida State 93-62 at home. The last time the Huskies lost was on April 6, 2008, to Stanford—who the Huskies will face on Dec. 30 (and some predict it could be the end of the winning streak). The overall college record is held by the women’s team at Wayland Baptist University, which won 131 consecutive games from 1953 to 1958—before the NCAA began sponsoring the game and with different rules. Kaye Garms, an All-American at Wayland in the 1950s who is the director of women’s officiating for the Western Athletic Conference, attended Tuesday’s game and said she saw similarities between her team and UConn, saying “desire is still the same.”
