Britain is now the first country in the world to allow people to use three-person IVFs at fertility clinics in order to prevent genetic mitochondrial diseases. The House of Lords voted on Tuesday to allow doctors to use material from a mother, father and a female donor to conceive a baby. Mitochondrial diseases stem from DNA imperfections passed from the mother. This donor system would only comprise .2 percent of the baby's DNA, while the parents would still provide 99.8 percent.
