The power supplies to Crimea have been temporarily cut off by Ukraine on Wednesday. According to officials in Kiev, the Russian-controlled peninsula has not curbed its power consumption that was required by a power crisis. “Today electricity supplies to Crimea were shut off... just as would be done to any region of Ukraine,” a ministry representative said. While Crimea is controlled by Russia, it receives its power from Ukraine. In addition, Amnesty International called out pro-Kiev groups operating in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday for blocking humanitarian aid. “These battalions often act like renegade gangs and urgently need to be brought under control. Denying food to people caught up in a conflict is against international law and the perpetrators must be held to account,” a statement from the group said.
